Imagine yourself back at the turn of the 20th century . . . Sipping a beverage in an antique loveseat or wingback chair. Marveling at the imported handpainted ceilings in one of the several sitting rooms, the spacious verandah with wicker furniture, or the Music Room complete with a Victrola and player piano . . .
Built in 1899, the Solomon Mier Manor has recently been renovated into a Bed & Breakfast.
Solomon Mier was one of the early Jewish immigrants from Germany who found that Noble County, Indiana contained an atmosphere of religious tolerance amidst the German Mennonites who had also settled in Noble County. He was one of the first members of the Jewish colony who arrived in Ligonier in 1854.
Solomon Mier operated a number of banks in Northeastern Indiana. He helped finance electric railways to connect area cities. In Ligonier, his Mier Carriage & Buggy Company built fancy carriages for the trade and later the "Runabout" automobile.
The home is located on the edge of Ligonier's downtown business area and is included in the Architectural Tour which contains the grandest collections of Victorian architecture to be seen. A large portion of the city was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. The Solomon Mier Manor is just one of the examples of the area's outstanding architecture.
