Each suite is named after a former owner of the estate. These dramatic and well-appointed guest suites are perched on the bluff above Greenwood State Park Beach, with banks of windows filled with a view of Pacific Ocean, beach, and offshore sea stacks. Many of these islands have sea caves that run clear through the rock, through which waves surge in an endless display of majestic force.
The Craftsman style bungalow design of the suites embodies the early 1900s Arts and Crafts philosophy of serenity, commitment to handicraft, and luxury. Built exclusively of redwood, the exterior features Montana flagstone walkways, mortared stone work, wood shingles, copper gutters and hand railings, copper capped balcony posts, and Ed Hurley (local Mendocino physicist turned artisan) light fixtures of copper and stained glass.
Hand eased redwood beams were used to create the second floor cathedral ceilings. You won’t see it, but you’ll feel the sense of privacy provided by concrete reinforcement between floors, and the walkways between rooms make each suite feel like a world unto itself. You’ll want to live in your bare feet, especially after treading the radiant heat tile bathroom floors in the upstairs suites. Each suite is generously proportioned, with high ceilings, sitting room, gas fireplace, arts and crafts furniture, wet bar with espresso-maker, microwave, and refrigerator, and a private balcony or stone patio. |

Cypress trees stand guard directly outside the window, an impressive sense of the closeness of this area's natural beauty. They frame the view better than any store bought frame could do, so we let the view speak for itself.

Originally built as an executive retreat by the L.E. White Lumber Company in 1883, the main house retains all the charm and elegance of the hospitality of yesteryear. No wonder that the Elk Cove Inn made such a gracious transition to becoming a bed and breakfast getaway, one of the very first established on the northern California coast, in 1968.
The seven rooms in the oceanfront mansion each have their own style from cozy to baronial, with garden and ocean views. Choose a room that looks out over our herb and flower garden, or with a direct view into a grove of Cypress trees, or then again, would you ever tire of watching waves splashing against rocks from a second floor aerie?
